Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due…
We thought we were pretty clever in coming up with the name “Lumberyard
Skiff” for our project boat in Getting Started. Then we discovered
that Walter Baron of Old Wharf Dory Company had us beat by years.
While we’re sorry to have stepped on Walter’s turf with this naming
overlap, we’re also delighted to find that his boat—a simple skiff
that can be built in both 16′ and 20′ models—fits the Getting Started
philosophy beautifully. You can visit his web site, www.oldwharf.com,
to view and purchase plans for his Lumberyard Skiffs. The 20-footer is
a big and burdensome outboard-powered center-console model, and you may
find that one of Walter’s designs fits your needs more than our
relatively small boat.
